A view. Right or Wrong it's what I think!
by Sue Nicoll on 2002-02-27

Well over the years I have been paying a lot of attention to the forums and postings on the internet concerning pro wrestling. For sure I have paided attention to our local, or rather regional market.

The pulse of the fans and the workers in the local area, everyone is influenced by the top dog, at this time in history it is the World Wrestling Federation.

Now we are all guilty of being influenced in our thinking by what is on the top of an industry, all guilty of being imitators instead of innovators. This goes for fans and workers as well as people promoting on the Indy level.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

To me nothing is more distastful than angles recently done by the WWF, badly done by Indy wresting shows. What even is more distasteful is workers copying personalities and moves popular at the moment.

"What do I know," well I know this from experiance, fans who come to Indy wrestling do not want to see a failed or hokey attempt at main stream wrestling, that is a WWF overtones type show. Unless it's done in jest.. It's always fun to poke a LITTLE FUN.

What the fans want is an alternative. Yes there is some that want a kind
of, sort of product. For the most part I believe the copy cat format will turn more faithful fans off. Others will be unsatisfied by the copy cat product and not return to the show.

The whole thing is to keep Indy wrestling unique, that way if the product makes it into the main stream it is there on it's own merrits. Quite often I like to compare wrestling promotions to the music industry.

How many bar bands play top ten.......tons......They sound just like so and so. The bar band plays every night and 9 out of 10 times just goes nowhere. The garage band that plays original stuff gets the break if they stay with a plan, no not always but sure as hell a lot more often then the chumps playing top 40. Yes we are all influenced by something, even myself, I'm guilty too. The thing is to not let those influences cloud your judgement. What I really have been trying to point out is this, let Indy Wrestling continue to be Indy wrestling. Keep it pure, keep it cult, keep it original. LONG LIVE INDY PRO WRESTLING.
