"Obsession is the well-spring of genius and madness"

Professional wrestling has been my obsession for most of my life. As far back as I can remember, wrestling has been very much a part of me and all things that revolve around me. Whether in or out of the ring, pro wrestling has been my obsession.

However during a return trip from the United States, a little turbulence at 29,000 feet makes you think about what's really important in your life.

In my trek to those United States, I got engaged to a woman whom I had first met some 23 years earlier. With frequent phone calls, emails and letters sent back and forth, pro wrestling has taken a back seat to what has become important to me now.

I used to obsess over the smallest things about the wrestling game. Over analyzing each and every move that people and promoters made and I finally came to realize that it's not about me...it's about them.

At 39, my best days are truly behind me. I sometimes see the fire and desire in the eyes of the youngsters of the sport. That same look I had over ten years ago.

Now I may not agree with the mentality, training or attitude of some of these individuals...but I can't stop them from doing what they love to do. If I stand in front of them, they will always find a way around me. In all reality, who am I to try and stop them anyway?

I would hope that they remember, and never forget that pro wrestling is a very dangerous way to have fun. You can end up in a wheelchair for the rest of your life with one slip-up...and what would it have been for?

The future of professional wrestling in Winnipeg is now in the hands of those who choose to participate and promote it. Guys like myself and others who have been around for a while can do nothing more then offer advice and hope that those who seek it are smart enough to listen.

With the insurance rates up to as high as $5000 a year from what I'm told, community club wrestling cards may just become a thing of the past unless someone can find the key to them actually making money...and I wish them the best of luck.
